The legend of Slender Man is perhaps best chronicled on Creepypasta, a forum for fringe horror and paranormal phenomena. According to the legend's entry on the website, Slender Man is a tall, suited and shadowy figure of lanky stature, sometimes appearing with 4–8 long tentacles that protrude from his back like grotesque spider legs — a point of disagreement among various "experts" on his character.
According to his tale, his appearance is "very thin and able to stretch his limbs and torso to inhuman lengths in order to induce fear and ensnare his prey. Once his arms are outstretched, his victims are put into something of a hypnotized state, where they are utterly helpless to stop themselves from walking into them."
A further description, from the Creepypasta page:
“Whether he absorbs, kills, or merely takes his victims to an undisclosed location or dimension is also unknown as there are never any bodies or evidence left behind in his wake to deduce a definite conclusion.
His face is pale and slightly ghostly, and almost appears to have been wrapped in a type of gauze or cloth. his facial features are also an object of debate, and many people believe that his face looks different to each person, if it is seen at all."
Slender Man made headlines last year after two 12-year-old girls were charged in the attempted murder of a classmate, which they purported they were commanded to do by the entity. Most recently, at least one of the girls maintains that she still believes in and communicates with Slender Man.

Slender Man is a tall, suited figure who popped up in Internet forums sometime in 2009.
"His face is pale and slightly ghostly, and almost appears to have been wrapped in a type of gauze or cloth," they write, adding that his appearance may very from person to person.
He's been likened to similar figures from Scottish, Dutch, and German folklore.
"Believers in the Slender Man tie his appearances in with many other legends around the world, including; Fear Dubh (or, The Dark Man) in Scotland, the Dutch Takkenmann (Branch Man), and the German legend of Der Großmann or Der Grosse Mann (the Tall Man)," writes Creepypasta.
It's unclear what becomes of his victims or why he's thought to kill.
There's no one clear theory about his behavior. "Much of the fascination with Slender Man is rooted in the overall aura of mystery that he is wrapped in," says Creepypasta. "Despite the fact that it is rumored he kills children almost exclusively, it is difficult to say whether or not his only objective is slaughter."
Slender Man was linked to the attempted murder of a young girl in 2014, with two women suggesting they'd been ordered to do so.
At least one of the girls maintains that she still believes in and communicates with Slender Man.
“She continues to believe that Slender Man is real," says psychiatrist Dr. Kenneth Robbins, who is treating Morgan Geyser for early-onset schizophrenia. "She continues to believe that she has an ongoing relationships with several characters from the Harry Potter book who come and visit her and who she feeds and who sometimes sleep over."
It was announced this week that both young women will be tried as adults for their participation in the Slender Man stabbing.
