She Got The Most Prom Queen Votes In Her School’s History… When I Heard Why? I Was In Tears!

Kids have the capacity for incredible gestures of kindness. For one special teen, an entire student body worked to make her dreams a reality.

Katie Shipley, a senior at Southridge High School in Beaverton, OR, was born with a rare chromosome disorder and has struggled with developmental disabilities for most of her life. According to USA Today, she wasn’t even expected to live long enough to make it to high school, let alone go on to become one of the most popular students on campus. Thanks in part to her senior class, Katie was recently nominated for the coveted title of prom queen…with the most votes in the school’s entire history.

"My friends are so beautiful and they're so great to me and I want to say thank you for everything," Katie told OregonLive.

OregonLive reports that Katie will graduate this year. While she may require assistance for the majority of her life, her friends and family have done everything in their power to let her know just how special she is.

Decked out in an enviable purple and gold gown, Katie was crowned at the World Trade Center Portland, where students chanted her name and cheered for her as she accepted her title.

“I love being prom queen,” Katie says. “I just love it.”

Please SHARE her story with your friends. Let’s commend these kids on their kindness!
