The Way You Spread Butter On Toast Could Actually Say A Lot About Your Personality

In the realm of seemingly mundane daily activities, experts suggest that the way we spread butter on toast can reveal deeper insights into our personalities. Human behavioral researcher Darren Stanton, in collaboration with plant-butter brand Flora, has identified distinct spreading styles, categorizing individuals into groups such as Gliders, Clumpers, Total Coverage Spreaders, and even Crust Avoiders. I’m going to go through a few of these special styles to see if anyone can figure out which butter spreader they are.

Stanton identifies Gliders as individuals who effortlessly slide their knife over toast for an even spread. This method, chosen by approximately 50% of the surveyed adults, reflects a calm and easygoing nature. Gliders navigate life’s challenges with serenity, making them adept at listening to others’ problems while maintaining their own composure. The even spread of butter mirrors their ability to glide through life unbothered by stress or obstacles.

About 19% of individuals fall into the Total Coverage Spreader category, meticulously spreading butter right up to the edges of the toast. This method reflects methodical precision and organization. Total Coverage Spreaders are often the planners in their social circles, demonstrating a meticulous approach to tasks and a preference for completeness.

For the 6% of Clumpers, unevenly spreading butter, leaving clumps on the bread, is a reflection of their unconventional thinking. These individuals operate in their own world, approaching tasks in unique ways and often being fashionably late to appointments. Their scattered nature is reflected in their carefree attitude toward the butter spread.

Approximately 5% of adults who avoid spreading butter on the crust are classified as Crust Avoiders. This group tends to be neat, tidy, and procedural. Describing themselves as perfectionists, they excel in administrative tasks and fear the mess that might come from butter spilling over the edge.
