Mattel Releases Stevie Nicks Barbie Doll That Celebrates The Singer’s ‘Rumours’ Era

Stevie Nicks wasn't sure how she felt about Mattel making a Barbie that looked like her. Growing up, she was more of a fan of baby dolls and she knew she would never look like her Barbie, so she didn't really relate to the doll. But she said the Stevie Barbie "means the world to her" and "she absolutely has [her] heart."

Stevie wrote on Twitter/X: "When I look at her, I see my 27 year old self~ All the memories of walking out on a big stage in that black outfit and those gorgeous boots come rushing back~ and then I see myself now in her face. What we have been through since 1975~ the battles we have fought, the lessons we have learned~ together. I am her and she is me."

Stevie announced the release of the Barbie, which is part of Mattel’s Barbie Music Series, at her concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sunday, October 1.

The Stevie Nicks Barbie comes wearing an outfit inspired by the cover of Rumours, the 1977 Fleetwood Mac album. Stevie told Today.com that she got the original outfit out of her vault and sent it to Mattel when she learned that the company was interested in recreating that outfit for the doll.

The doll comes with a black dress, black boots, and a moon necklace. Stevie talked to Today.com about how much she loves the outfit. She described it as an outfit that could work at any age. "It’s not age inappropriate at any age. It’s beautiful, it’s sophisticated. The boots are gorgeous, and this will be your uniform for your life," she said, reflecting back on what she thought when she got the outfit many years ago.

The Barbie was released online on October 2 for $55, but quickly sold out. “Soulful stage presence. Spellbinding style. With a career that’s touched generations of music lovers, @StevieNicks is the latest legend to be celebrated as part of the Barbie Music Series, bringing her inspiring story and chart-topping career to artists and audiences of all ages. #Barbie #YouCanBeAnything," a post from the official Barbie Instagram said.

One thing Stevie says she loves about the Barbie is that the doll brings memories back and reminds her of when she was younger. “She’s the ‘Rumours’ me, when I was 29 years old. But she’s also me now. It sounds impossible, but it’s not impossible somehow. Maybe that’s just the spirit of her — the spirit of Stevie Barbie and the spirit of me, blended together in this little person and it just emanates from her," Stevie told Today.com.

Stevie also appreciated how much creative input she had as the doll was being designed. She didn't love the doll's makeup when she received the prototype, so she provided feedback and the next doll she received was "perfect."

"When Mattel first sent her to me, I told them her eyebrows are a little too arched and my eye makeup, if you go back to the '70s, it was very Twiggy with lots of eyelashes and that doe-eyed look. So I said you need to raise that dark eyeshadow above the fold in her eye and that will fix it. And I said we need to see a little bit of teeth," she told USA Today.

Stevie wasn't certain that she would love the Barbie doll as much as she does. As a child, she loved baby dolls, so when Mattel approached her about the Barbie, she was hesitant. “You really just collected baby dolls, and your Barbie was way too beautiful for you to relate to,” she told herself when Mattel approached her about making the Stevie Barbie, People reported.

Now she loves so many things about the doll: the details, the memories she holds, her delicate hands. She told People that she "fell in love" with the doll. "She is really her own little feminist person at not even a foot tall. She's strong and she's fierce and she's solid," she told the publication.

She told Today.com that she has taken around 500,000 photos of the Stevie Barbie. "I can honestly say that this little person makes me happy. And that’s the thing I love about her the most. I can be in the worst, worst mood, and I walk in and see her — she’s like my happy pill. I instantly feel better. I have so many reasons to love her," she told Today.com.

Stevie said she remembers when her mom gave her a Barbie after they first came out. When she watched the Barbie movie, which she loved, seeing Margot Robbie as Barbie reminded her of how she wanted to look for much of her life. But "stereotypical Barbie" isn't the only one with an iconic appearance or style. "We wanted to wish Stevie Nicks a happy 75th birthday in the best way possible. So, we created a Barbie doll to capture her iconic style," Mattel said in a statement.
