Horses diving off of 50-foot bridges. Marilyn Monroe doing factory work…with brown hair! These are the forgotten moments from history that will baffle you. Why isn't this stuff included in our history books?
From the shocking to the hilarious, these are twelve of my absolute favorite strange history photos.

#1. A special mask designed to help you focus would make the wearer deaf and limit his or her vision. Why not just go to the library? Right??

#2. This whiskey dispenser was often installed in OFFICES in the 1950s...

#3. The diving horses of the steel pier in Atlantic City, late 1890s. Horses lept off of the steel pier and into the ocean with riders on their backs. The show was cancelled after World War II thanks to the efforts of The Humane Society.

#4. Think womens' boxing is a recent phenomenon? These tough ladies climbed up to the roof where they could box free from men's criticism in the 1930s!

#5. A police officer and an old fashioned holding cell, circa 1921.

#6. A construction worker stands on a beam of building at 40 Wall Street, 1930. Safety precautions? Nah.

#7. The “Great Manta” that was captured by Captain A.L. Kahn on August 26, 1933. Look at the Captain to get an idea of just how monstrous that Manta Ray truly was!

#8. In 1913, two children were mailed by post and rail. (In other words, someone put a stamp on their kids and sent them to another location.) Soon after, this was outlawed by the parcel post.

#9. Recording the MGM lion in 1927

#10. A leaning mannequin from an atomic bomb test site in Nevada during the mid-50s.

#11. Four geniuses, just hanging out. Henry Ford, Thomas Edison , Warren G. Harding and Harvey Samuel Firestone all sitting together!

#12. Norma Jean (aka Marilyn Monroe) working in a factory in 1944.

#13. Last but not least, a very early (and very creepy) sketch of Mickey Mouse...whoa.
