Bon Appétit Directors Think A Super Bowl Buffalo Popcorn Recipe Is Worth More Than The Magazine

Snacks are just as important to Super Bowl Sunday as the actual game. Since the momentous Super Bowl 50 is right upon us, you're going to need to have an equally epic spread for you and your guests to enjoy with the game (and the commercials).

When Bon Appétit was putting together their Super Bowl recipes this year, their recipe developer stumbled across something totally game changing. The Creative Director of the magazine even told her that she should quit her job and go make the recipe commercially.

Popcorn is a classic snack that pretty much everyone loves… but it may not be worthy of such a history-making event. Does it pack enough flavor? With this sweet and salty buffalo caramel… there's no contest.

Think you'll give it a try?

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup hot sauce
  • 3 Tbsps. butter
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda

Directions:

  1. Pop kernels
  2. Boil water and sugar until it’s a deep amber caramel.
  3. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir.
  4. Spray a mixing bowl with nonstick coating to mix popcorn and caramel together.
  5. Line a baking sheet with wax paper, then spray with nonstick coating.
  6. Bake at 300 °F.
  7. Game on!
