Staying in hotels is my favorite. Somebody makes the bed for me, someone will bring me food if I call down for it, and (most importantly) it usually means that I'm on vacation.
But over the years, I've heard quite a few rumors about things I shouldn't do in a hotel. So I did a little digging. And it turns out that there are actually quite a few things I should never, ever, under any circumstances, do while on an overnight stay.
Some of them seem obvious, like "don't yell at the staff," even though I've definitely seen my fair share of hotel guests screaming at the front desk attendant. But others are not quite as obvious — I had no idea I shouldn't be touching the remote control. How else am I supposed to turn on my TV?
Scroll through below for this list of definite don'ts for your next hotel stay. Did we miss any? Let us know in the comments and please SHARE with anyone who loves to stay in hotels as much as I do!
1. Yell At The Hotel Staff
It doesn't matter how big the problem. Don't yell. Hotel staff members are people too. While they are here to help, they are not servants. Plus, you catch more flies with honey!
2. Rummage Around The Minibar
Many minibars have sensors. The second you pick up a bottle you may be getting charged! Resist temptation and don't even open the minibar door. There's gotta be a cheaper vending machine or liquor store nearby!
3. Use The Remote Control (At Least Not Without Sanitizing After)
Experts say the remote control may be the most germ-ridden item in your room. So either put a Ziploc over it, or make sure to sanitize your hands right after. Germaphobe or not, better safe than sorry!
4. Shout Your Room Number From The Mountaintops
Keep it down! There's no need to broadcast to the world where you're staying. This can be a security risk. And trust me, you don't wanted any uninvited visitors stopping by.
5. Sneak In Your Adorable Pets
You think you'll get away with it, but you won't. And in most hotels, the cleaning charge for sneaking in a pet is huge. Leave them at home or find a pet-friendly place to stay.
6. Leave The Jewelry Out And About
No one is going to steal your things. But if left out, they can easily be forgotten or knocked behind a dresser. Don't take any chances. Keep them in a secure place like the safe.
7. Throw Your Suitcase On The Bed
First, your suitcase was just on the ground. The dirty, dirty ground. Don't put it where your face or body will be. Second, in the unlikely (and terrifying) event of bedbugs, you don't want them traveling home with you in your luggage!
8. Shine Your Shoes With A Hand Towel
You do understand that shining your shoes or washing off your makeup with a hand towel ruins it, right? Don't ruin the towels. It's rude and such a waste!
9. Or Take Those Beautiful Hand Towels As Souvenirs
You don't need the hand towels that badly. Some hotels will count them and charge you, and others have security cameras that can catch things you might steal. Avoid an embarrassing situation and don't take anything that's not yours.
Hotels are great, but make sure to avoid these nine situations to have the best possible stay. What other hotel no-nos did we miss? Let us know in the comments and please SHARE with anyone who loves staying in hotels!
