Teen With Stutter Is Terrified To Talk In Front Of Class Until His Teacher Hands Him Headphones

Public speaking can be the most terrifying for a person who is shy.

Sometimes it has nothing to do with confidence, it comes down to the fact that anyone can become nervous when faced with an audience of their peers.

In 2013, teacher James Martin was working with his student Musharaf, better known as Mushy, to help him with his stutter and public speaking. Since Mushy was a child, he’s had a severe stammer.

Mushy’s speech can become almost unintelligible if he is nervous or upset. Losing his nerve can send him into a downward spiral that makes it very hard for Mushy to articulate what he needs.

After watching Mushy struggle, James thought of the movie The King’s Speech. He believed it would be helpful to give Mushy headphones and have him listen to music.

Mushy puts the headphones on and begins to tap a rhythm out on his leg as he recites the poem again. He starts out with a bit of a stutter, but the longer he speaks, the faster his stutter disappears. The more confidence Mushy gets, the better his speech becomes!

If you think this teacher is a wonderful role model for his students, then you will also love this teacher who got fed up with his school when they wouldn’t remodel, so he planted flowers himself!
