Sarah McKinley was 18 when her husband passed away from cancer. The young widow was left to raise their three-month-old son as a single mother — and she was about to prove she was stronger than anyone could have imagined.
New Year's Eve 2012 was the week after her husband passed away. Sarah was home alone with her infant son when two men, armed with a knife, attempted to break into her home.
She was hellbent on keeping the intruder from hurting her baby — and she had weapons of her own.
Sarah quickly slid a couch in front of the door, hurried into the bedroom to put a bottle in her son's mouth and called 911. As you'll hear in the video below, her phone call with the dispatchers is not only shocking and surreal, but it likely saved her and her baby's lives.
"I've got two guns in my hand," Sarah told the dispatcher. "Is it OK to shoot him if he comes in this door?"

"Well, you have to do whatever you can do to protect yourself," said dispatcher Diane Graham. "I can't tell you that you can do that, but you do what you have to do to protect your baby."
The men proceeded to kick down the front door and come at Sarah with a knife.
Sarah made her choice.
