Mercedes Sandhu wasn't trying to get pregnant a third time, but she was still looking forward to welcoming the newest addition to her family. She didn't realize that she would actually be welcoming four children to her family.
On May 1, Mercedes and her partner, Jonathan, welcomed Hannah Grace, Lucy Marie, Rebecca Claire, and Petra Anne, who are identical quadruplets, according to Today.com. "We loved the idea of giving our boys another sibling," she told the outlet. “But when we found out there were four … Holy moly!”
The quadruplets are identical, according to DNA testing. But the Texas couple is also waiting for more information to be completely sure about it, as per Today.com.
Having identical quadruplets is not common. While there is about a 1 in 800,000 chance of having quadruplets, according to Good Morning America, having identical quadruplets is much less likely.

It's estimated that there's about a 1 in 11 million to 15 million chance of having identical quadruplets, according to Good Morning America.
It definitely wasn't what Mercedes, 34, expected when she went for an ultrasound at seven weeks.
It was her third pregnancy. She already had two children — Luke, 3, and Aaron, 18 months. She told Jonathan, 37, that he didn't need to go to the appointment with her because there would be "plenty of scans," Today.com reported.
The ultrasound revealed "four little blobs" — and when she called her husband to share the news with him, he couldn't believe it.
When the girls were born, her husband told Today.com he "was crying in the delivery room" — not only because Hannah, Lucy, Rebecca, and Petra were born, but also because his wife survived the high-risk pregnancy.
The girls were delivered via cesarean section and they are staying in the neonatal intensive care unit at Texas Children’s Hospital. The smallest of the four babies was born weighing 2 lbs., 7 oz., Today.com reported.
On Instagram, Jonathan is documenting their journey. In the first post from @thesandhucrew, he wrote, "On May 1, 2024, our lives changed forever. It started as a normal day with an ultrasound, but based on the results, the doctors decided to schedule a c-section."
He noted that the babies seem happy and healthy. "Considering they were all sharing one placenta, this is an absolute miracle (but hey, so is the fact they even exist)," he wrote.
He added that "Mercedes was/is an absolute champ and was up walking around this morning."
