When deciding how best to feed your baby, you have to navigate a myriad of options and outsiders' opinions. There’s breastfeeding, formula, which formula to choose, and the judgment of your third cousin once removed. It can be overwhelming. One thing most parents do not expect to deal with is worms in their baby’s formula.
One Texas mom found herself in this scary situation. Jessica Chavez noticed something black in her baby’s formula and removed it to investigate further. It wiggled, and she knew it was a worm. She was terrified, because she had been feeding her 8-month-old baby the formula for weeks.
“I was scooping up some formula and then I noticed something black inside the powder,” she said. “So, I got it out, and it was moving. That’s when I noticed it was a worm.”
The formula in question is Enfamil NeuroPro Gentlease Infant — Brain Building Nutrition, Clinically Proven to Reduce Fussiness, Gas, Crying in 24 hours, 35.2 Oz., Power Refill Box (Pack 4). Jessica bought this four-pack on Amazon on February 25 of this year. She contacted the company to report her findings.

Enfamil is working to get to the bottom of this situation. The company offered Jessica a refund. It is also picking up the formula in question to use as part of an investigation in hopes of finding out what went wrong.
Enfamil is owned by Reckitt/Mead Johnson, which issued a statement about the situation. "At Reckitt/Mead Johnson we take these complaints very seriously," it read. "We received the consumer complaint, have been in touch with the consumer directly, and are moving quickly to investigate the situation.”
Jessica reported that her son has been experiencing diarrhea, but she is unsure if the formula is the case. She is going to have him tested for parasites just to be safe. It is better to be safe than sorry.
Jessica is telling her story to help out other parents. She does not want them to have to go through the same formula scare she did.
“I just want it to be spread out to moms,” Jessica said. “It’s shocking … and … it’s really disgusting to know that there’s worms in there.”
