The 10 Most Horrifying Horror Movie Villains Of All Time

There's nothing wrong being a couch potato. If getting up and getting all dressed up in a ridiculous Halloween costume isn't your cup of tea, why not stay in and scare the pants off yourself (woo-hoo) by watching the Top 10 scariest thrillers of all time?

Make a marathon of it, because after you watch the first two you won't be able to fall asleep anyway. I've counted down my favorite Halloween Horror Movie Villains. Did I miss any? Let me know in the comments.

Please share these demonic movie monsters with all of your friends.

#10. Ghostface in Scream, 1996

Perhaps this movie was so successful because it seemed so plausible. Insanity among us in small-town America is always terrifying. Also, Drew Barrymore's opening scene with the murderous and mysterious Ghostface probably ruined my sleep for months.

#9. Gage in Pet Sematary, 1989

"I wanna play with yewwwwwwwww!!!" Babies are terrifying to begin with (cya later savings account!) but Stephen King's character Gage is particularly nightmarish because he's a zombie baby that kills your neighbors and your loved ones, totally not ideal. (Zelda, the thumbnail for this post, is also completely terrifying.)

#8. Jack Torrance in The Shining 1980

Insanity and the supernatural overlap in this early-80s classic. Nicholson's portrayal of tortured-writer Jack Torrance is haunting and has occupied the American psyche for years. What in the world happened at the Overlook Hotel?

#7. Leatherface in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 1990

Texas-Chainsaw_610.jpg

Initially rated X for it's sadistic and graphic violence, Texas Chainsaw Massacre opens with the film bludgeoning a girl to death before making a mask out of her face. Totally normal. Leatherface embarks on a violent tour du force that culminates in feeding the corpse of his grandfather blood. By the way, the original ending is better than the alternate in my opinion.

#6. Jack Vorhees in Friday the 13th Part 2, 1981

All I'm going to say is that the shrine to his mom's decapitated head in the cabin is something that I never needed to see. Side note: the franchise of a dozen films has grossed $465 million at the box-office worldwide.

#5. Samara in The Ring, 2002

This plot quickly seems dated thanks to the significance of the VHS tape, but Samara's ability to kill beyond the grave through the television set remains incredibly disturbing.

#4. Pennywise in IT, 1990

"NO GEORGIE WE CAN GET YOU ANOTHER BOAT! NOOOOO!" I never looked at storm drains the same way again after watching Tim Curry's performance of Pennywise in IT.

#3. Candyman in The Candyman

Having just watched the psychotherapist scene once more I can't determine what's scarier: Candyman's pregnant pause before disemboweling the shrink, or Phillip Glass's seriously disturbing score.

#2. Jigsaw in Saw, 2004

The award for most inventive manners of murdering screaming victims goes to Jigsaw in Saw. This is NOT a movie to watch if you're home alone – believe it from someone who tried it.

#1. Michael Myers in Halloween, 1978

The #1 reason why I didn't babysit in high school, disturbed Michael Myers
