In South Africa there are a group of nannies who spend their days keeping a watchful eye on a few adorable babies. They make sure these sweet little things are clean, had their bottles, are happy, healthy, and safe. Sounds like any childcare profession, right? Well, these are not your typical nannies and these most certainly are not your typical babies.
These young nannies are actually British volunteers who work with baby elephants who have been abandoned and rejected by their mothers at the Knysna Elephant Park. Most of the elephants are just a few weeks old and are in desperate need of that motherly touch. In the video below, you'll meet Fiela who bonded immediately with the elephant nannies, so much in fact that they are trying to get her to bond just as much with an already existing elephant herd. While Fiela has already been accepted by her herd, staff members are just waiting for that wonderful moment when she beings to accept them.
Thank you so much for the wonderful work that everyone at the Knysna Elephant Park does. If it weren't for such a dedicated and loving staff, who knows where these rejected elephants may have ended up.
