This is why it's always important to check where your eggs come from. These hens were just recused from a battery case farm, which is basically a place where chickens are forced into tiny cages – where they can't even stretch their wings – and spend their lives laying eggs. Once the farm decides they're too old to lay eggs, the chickens are killed.
Thanks to the Animal Place rescue group, however, these chickens got a second chance at life, and are experiencing what it's like to finally stretch their wings, and feel the earth under their feet.
I've never seen a chicken smile before, but I swear, if you watch this video all the way to the end, it actually seems like they are! You can almost see the happiness in their eyes!
