It's easy to cover a song exactly as it's written. All you have to do is look up the chords online and bang it out on the guitar or a piano. Heck, you could even just sing it a cappella without any instrument at all, note for note. Easy peasy.
Thirdstory, composed of Richard Saunders, Ben Lusher, and Elliott Skinner from NYC, does some really amazing arrangements of your favorite pop songs. It takes a lot of talent and imagination to completely and successfully recreate something that's already worked so well the way it is. These guys do it so flawlessly, you might just end up liking their cover even more than the original. Their voices are as smooth as butter, and their bright smiles aren't too bad to look at, either.
In this acoustic cover of Taylor Swift's "Style," they totally tone down the bass-heavy, percussion-driven pop hit that everyone can't get enough of, and they turn it into something irresistible to anyone. Their arrangement is full of chilling harmonies and rhythmic surprises that bring you back to a completely different era of music, while also keeping true to T-Swift's original hit-making vibe. This jazzy arrangement definitely just turned me into a Thirdstory fan, and I can't wait to hear what they do next.
