Do you think tipping at restaurants is a must? This video created by College Humor challenges one of our society's age-old traditions in a short film entitled, "Why Tipping Should Be Banned" — and I gotta say, it left me pretty flabbergasted, with more questions than I expected going into it! I've always believed that tipping is really important, but after seeing this… is it, really?
The argument is strong on both sides. Some people think tipping is imperative. On YouTube, the comments ranged from pro-tipping…
"If it weren't for tipping, the customer service we have in this country wouldn't be top notch. I've traveled to other countries and the customer service sucks. They feel they don't have to be kind because they aren't getting paid any higher or less than usual. People that cry 'no tipping' and how America is backwards because of this aren't very smart or objective in their thinking."
…to those that entirely agree with the video:
"…service quality is hardly correlated with tipping percentage. Numerous studies has shown this, people more often than not just tip the same amount wherever they go and tip percentage is more correlated with the person doing the tipping than the service quality received."
