When our pets endure any measure of trauma, we as their pet parents will go to any reasonable lengths to ensure that their rehabilitation is successful. For one tiny creature who lost her two front legs, her human caretakers managed to come up with an inventive way to ensure her ongoing mobility.
A brutal attack by a rat left Mrs T., a 90-year-old tortoise (yes, 9-0!), without her two front legs and no way to move herself around. Mrs. T had been placed in a garden shed for hibernation when the rat snuck in and gnawed her legs. After many vet visits, mechanical engineer Dale Ryder came up with a solution. Ryder fitted the wheels of a mechanical plane to her tiny body, helping her move around with ease by pushing herself with her back legs.
"We were afraid she may have to be put down but her new set of wheels have saved her life,” Jude Ryder, Mrs. T’s pet mom, told BBC. "She took to her new wheels straight away but she has had to learn how to turn and stop.” Ryder adds that the wheels have actually helped Mrs. T move much faster than ever before.
