Mom Discovers Hidden Room That May Be Linked To Underground Railroad

When Alexandra Poulos was a kid, she would have bizarre dreams in her childhood home. She would dream about other rooms in the house, ones that didn't exist. People always thought it was her imagination — that was until years later, when Poulos discovered the unthinkable.

"When I was a child, I would have random dreams about there being other rooms in the house. I’d look it up on dream meanings sites and people always thought I just had a crazy imagination," she told ABC.

After her mother and brother passed away, Poulos had her father sign over the rights to the home that had been in the family since 1974. Poulos began renting it out, but soon after, the basement began breaking down. That's when she discovered a crack in the wall that lead to a hidden room, 14-feet below the basement.

After doing research, Poulos discovered the room may have been a part of the Underground Railroad! The region is historically said to have been an area where many abolition sympathizers lived, some of which may have helped enslaved peoples escape to freedom through the famous Underground Railroad.

“The region… historically has been known as an abolitionist sympathizer area that probably did have a good number of people who have been involved in or were sympathetic to anti-slavery activism, including potential participation in the Underground Railroad,” said Rachel Moloshok of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.

Poulos hopes to continue doing more research to confirm the room is a part of history.
