It took a lot of courage for Valerie Watts to finally get rid of her son's crib.
Almost a year before her 2014 garage sale, Watts gave birth to a stillborn boy. The Cokota, MN woman had no use for the brand new crib, but held onto it as a reminder of all she had lost.
The grieving mother was relieved to finally move on when she sold the crib to Gerald Kumpula and his wife, but nothing could prepare her for what happened next.
When Kumpula asked Watts about her child's age, they learned the truth about her devastating loss. That's when Kumpula knew what to do with the crib.
The carpenter brought the crib home to his workshop and transformed it into something that the grieving mother could hold on to for life — and always be reminded of her baby boy.
Kumpula returned to Watts' home the next week with a beautiful bench, and she cried on the spot.
There's not much to do to help a grieving parent, but I guarantee Kumpula's act of kindness for this stranger was something she will be grateful for forever.
