We all remember the 1960s classic Breakfast at Tiffany's, right? Who could forget Holly Golightly's disheveled glamour, charming neuroses, and sparsely decorated New York City apartment?
With her soft elegance and beautiful spirit, it's no surprise that Audrey Hepburn is still so famous today — but would you have ever guessed that so many icons of this quirky film would become so fashionable in today's time?
Take, for example, Holly's strikingly peculiar bathtub couch. Nowadays, tons of crafty people are salvaging old clawfoot bathtubs and transforming them into beautiful — and fully functional — sofas.
And, as this wonderful tutorial is about to show you, it’s not that difficult to do yourself. If you think old bathtubs are too rare or expensive, think again! As we’ve demonstrated in the past, Craigslist is bursting with cheap resources.
The end result of this project is no less gorgeous than Ms. Golightly’s charming sofa!

Step 1: Find an old, cheap bathtub.
Step 2: Remove the feet, then sandblast the exterior.
Step 3: Start to cut the tub's side. After trying a few different power tools, the user found that the angle grinder worked best for him.
Step 4: Remove the cut panel.
Step 5: Use a grinding disc, then a sanding disc, to clean up the edges.
Step 6: Prime the tub's exterior and its feet.
Step 7: Paint the tub's exterior with your color of choice.
Step 8: Paint the detached feet separately. Once they're dry, you can reattach them.
Step 9: Sand the tub's exterior and feet. Apply the final layer of paint after.
Step 10: You can create the cushion with foam padding, and then upholster it with a fabric of your choice to add some flair.
Step 11: "Oooh!" and "Aaah!" over your new bathtub sofa!
Your quirky couch is now ready for reading, sipping your morning coffee, or catching up with a friend!
