After spending the first three years of his life inside a tiny cage, Xander the cat has finally found freedom.
Rescued by the Beagle Freedom Project, an organization that seeks to legally free laboratory animals, Xander (called Jax before he was adopted) luckily found a new home with Rachel Gruen, a cat lover who looked past Xander's possible issues and gave him the loving second chance he so desperately needed.
When Xander first arrived, Gruen noticed some very odd behavior, which made her think he was possibly used in neurological research. He spent "a lot of time staring into his water dish and at blank spaces on the wall," Gruen tells news outlets. "He also cocked his head in this adorable but very un-cat-like way whenever I came into the room — like a puppy putting its head to the side, which I have never seen a cat do before."
While Xander's past is heartbreaking to even think about, I'm beyond grateful that the Beagle Freedom Project, and loving people like Rachel Gruen, exist!
Any and all animal testing should be outlawed in my opinion, especially the kind of testing that leads to irrevocable harm!

Xander, happy and safe and settling in!
