Working out isn't always fun. Watching TV, on the other hand, is an enjoyable way to spend time. But what if you could combine the two? Work out while watching your favorite television shows.
When you watch TV, it's easy to just get comfy on the couch and lose track of time. Instead of just lounging around, use your television time as exercise time!
Many people watch television while they're on the elliptical at the gym or hitting the treadmill, but you don't have to leave the house or have expensive equipment to get a good workout. Check out these fun and easy ways to work out while watching TV!
1. Do Jumping Jacks During Commercial Breaks
One easy way to get your heart rate up is to do some jumping jacks! Each commercial break, stand up from the couch and do jumping jacks. See if you can go for the entire commercial break — if not, just take it one commercial at a time!
2. Do Cardio During a Show
If you have any sort of cardio equipment at home — like a treadmill, elliptical, or stationary bike — pick a good show and vow to work out for the entire episode. Try to distract yourself during tough parts of the workout by tuning into the show.
3. Play a Workout Game
If you have a hard time convincing yourself to work out, let the television act as your coach. First, set up some guidelines. For example, if you're watching a home show, do 10 crunches every time someone says "open concept," do a 30-second plank every time someone says "expensive," and so on. Once you've made your rules, let the show dictate your workout!
4. Walk in Place
If you don't have any cardio equipment at home, that's totally fine! Use your TV time to get some extra steps in by walking in place during your favorite show. If you feel silly marching in place, walk around your apartment or house.
5. Stretch It Out
Many people don't think about stretching as a workout, since it doesn't burn as many calories as other workouts, but it's still worth doing! Stretching helps keep your muscles in good shape, which helps when you're doing both aerobic and anaerobic workouts.
