Imagine you're at a thrift store, rummaging through old records, and you stumble across a piece of very personal history. It's a love letter dated December 29, 1944 — over 70 years ago. But this is not just any love letter: it's the heartsick writings of a World War II soldier dearly missing his sweetheart back home.
That's exactly what happened to Ilene Ortiz of Westminster, CO. Shocked by her thrift store find, and deeply touched by the old letter, Ilene became determined to find its rightful owners. She contacted local news stations, hoping to reunite the letter and its author in time for Valentine's Day.
To her shock, Ilene was able to do just that.
Although he's now 90 years old, Bill Moore remembered writing it like it was just yesterday — and his reunion with the old letter, thought to be lost forever, was an emotional one. It was hard not to share Bill's tears as I watched him read his affectionate words and reminisce about his beloved Bernadean.

Here is young Bill Moore, a 20-year-old soldier serving in the 10th Armored Division of Patton's Third Army.
His sweetheart, Bernadean, kept Bill going during his difficult deployment. He never stopped thinking of her.
Bill and Bernadean were married soon after Bill's return. They were happily married for 63 years.
"It's difficult talking out loud about it to other people," Bill said. "But I loved her, and she loved me. That's all I can tell you."
Bernadean passed in 2010, but Bill remembers the many years of happiness they shared together.
Bill and his daughter, Melinda, were shocked when they heard Bill's love letter had been found.
No one knows how the letter wound up in a discarded record, but Bill and his family were very happy to be reunited with it.
"My darling, lovable, alluring, Bernadean," the letter begins. "I ran out of space, but I could have written a lot more adjectives describing you. You are so lovely, darling, that I often wonder how it is possible that you are mine. I'm really the luckies
