After hearing a boy scream for help while patrolling the waters of the tiny seaside resort town of Cornwall, England, this lifeguard knew he had to act fast.
It turns out, this young boy had been swept away from Crooklets Beach by a very, very strong riptide while body boarding. The lifeguard, later identified as Joby Wolfenden-Brown, jumped in the water, climbed on his rescue board, and made a b-line to the boy.
The amazing rescue was all caught on camera and shows Wolfenden-Brown grab the boy, pulling him on his board, and bringing him back to shore to be reunited with his family.
Riptides can be extremely strong and beachgoers hitting the water need to be very careful. The best rule of thumb if caught in a riptide is to never panic, swim against the current, and if possible, raise your arm to signal for help.
