Rare Photo Of Harrison Ford From 1970 Shows The ‘Star Wars’ Hunk Shirtless

We've all had our share of odd jobs as we've worked our way up our various career ladders. I spent some time slinging pizza and working retail back in high school and college. They aren't always the most glamorous of gigs, but as long as the pay the bills, that's what matters. For actor Harrison Ford, that meant getting his hands dirty as a carpenter throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Though he had received a few bit roles in movies and television by that time, Ford just wasn't satisfied with what he was being offered and taught himself some handy woodworking skills. Soon, he was earning money for his little family by building decks and cabinets, and even as a stagehand for the Doors. While he continued to wait for juicier film opportunities, Ford was also hired to construct an at-home studio for musician Sergio Mendes in 1970.

This video features a photo snapped by Mendes when the crew was on a break. Taken just three short years before Ford was given a small but important role in George Lucas's American Graffiti, and only seven years before his real breakthrough as Han Solo in Star Wars, the photo shows off the young actor's hunky physique. Maybe this is what convinced Lucas to keep an eye on the scruffy nerf-herder we now all know and love! You can definitely see his leading-man potential with that impressive set of abs. The giant smile on his face totally seals the deal, even with all that long hair and raggedy beard!
