After 5 Years, Missing Dog Miraculously Returned To Tearful Soldier

When Jessica Gutierrez left for a tour of military service in Afghanistan, she left her beloved tiny poodle in the care of her sister in New Mexico. Unfortunately, Cookie vanished, and despite an extensive search, her family couldn't find the poodle. That was five years ago.

Miraculously, the poodle turned up in San Diego, nearly 1,000 miles away from her original home. Although no one can say for sure how the dog made it there, the animal control officer who found the missing pup, did a microchip scan and identified Cookie. The officer called Gutierrez to say Cookie was safe, and that she'd be flown home.

On Wednesday, Cookie's flight arrived in Kansas City, Missouri, where she was reunited with her tearful mom. The heartwarming moment was all captured on camera.

The teacup poodle, now 7, still remembered her mother.

"I actually didn't expect her to remember me, so that was on the back of my mind," Gutierrez told KMBC. "But she did."

"I'm really, really happy right now," Gutierrez said.

She had Cookie microchipped as soon as she adopted her seven years ago, and advises other pet owners do to the same.
