I'm so grateful that we have people in the world who are so selfless they would put the lives of strangers before their own… even the life of a small animal.
Sue Drummond was walking her dog, Bibi, on a pier in their home of Melbourne, Australia when the weather quickly took a turn for the worst. Gale force winds close to 60 mph posed a threat to everyone near the water, especially the tiny Shih Tzu. A strong gust of wind blew Bibi off the pier into the choppy waters and Sue feared her beloved pet would be lost at sea.
While Bibi tried to paddle and stay afloat, Sue noticed a man strip down to his underwear and jump in to help the small dog. The stranger was Raden Soemawinata, a 20-year-old man who had gone to the pier that day to scatter his grandmother's ashes. He expected a quiet, peaceful moment alone, saying goodbye to one life, but instead he ended up saving another.
It's amazing that a stranger could risk his own life to save such a small dog, knowing only that Bibi was so loved by his owner. Raden has such a big, pure heart and I know his grandmother was watching over him that day, as proud as can be.

Sue Drummond was walking her dog, Bibi, on a Melbourne pier when a gust of wind blew him into the choppy bay water.

Raden Soemawinata saw the dog struggling to swim and stripped down to jump in and help Bibi.

Raden, a 20-year-old student, was at the pier to scatter his Grandmother's ashes in the bay. In an ironic twist, he ended up saving a life that day.

Raden was awarded the Compassionate Citizens Award by Animals Australia for his "selflessness and bravery".

Hopefully next time Drummond takes her pet to the pier there won't be such strong winds... and Bibi will be on a leash!
