Workers at Animal Advocates, a rescue organization in British Columbia, were alerted to a blind dog who was freezing and shivering in a ditch. When attempts to find his owners were unsuccessful, they took the dog in, named him Nelson — after Nelson Mandela, because of his kindhearted demeanor — and set out to give him a new life.
After realizing that Nelson's eyes were damaged beyond repair, his rescuers knew they needed to find him a home where he would be understood. Even though he had gone through a traumatic experience, Nelson was still a happy, friendly, loving dog, and it wasn't long before people stepped in to give him the life he always deserved.
Using other dogs as guides, and humans who understand how to give him the care he needs, Nelson has completely regained his independence. He is now the happy, healthy dog he was always meant to be!
