Dogs are known to be man’s best friend. But what happens when a pup’s best friend passes away?
There have been some tremendously loyal canines throughout history that have had extreme reactions to the loss of a loved one. In fact, a little Skye terrier in Scotland named Bobby became famous in 1872 due to his unwavering devotion. When his owner, John Gray, died in 1858, he was buried without a gravestone. But Bobby, being the faithful little tyke that he was, sniffed up the spot where his human was buried and stayed there, guarding the unmarked grave for 14 years until he died in 1872, and only left for quick meals. Eventually, John Gray and Bobby both received gravestones, paid for mostly by the pooch’s fans, and a fountain was erected in Edinburgh to honor his memory.
Bobby is not the only little lapdog whose loyalty is as big as a lion, though.
Take Romeo, for instance. He’s a stray Chihuahua from Houston, TX who lost his furry girlfriend (we’ll call her Juliet) to a rogue car that hit and killed her. Little Romeo was so devastated by his loss that he stayed by his puppy love’s side, refusing to move or eat anything for days.
Although Romeo’s story starts with a plot as devastating as a Shakespearean play, the end is more like Disney’s The Lion King than Hamlet.
In other words, Romeo’s story has an ending as warm and fuzzy as Romeo’s sweet, little soul.
But what is it?
