They Saw A Figure Tied To The Railroad Tracks. When They Got Closer? Heartbreaking!

Sometimes awful things happen, including to animals. Day after day, we hear reports of litters of defenseless kittens and puppies being abandoned. Other times we read stories that boast cruel details involving pets being thrown out on the streets with no food, water, or means of survival.

But what recently happened to a dog in Florida is so infuriating that police are going door-to-door to find out who is responsible for an incident they're describing as “an exceptionally terrible case of animal cruelty.”

A female pit bull mix, which the Tampa Police have renamed Cabela, was found tied to train tacks with multiple gunshot wounds in the Tampa neighborhood of Sulphur Springs.

She is now safe and receiving surgery at Tampa Bay Veterinary Emergency Service, but Tampa police think this particular case will involve a very difficult investigation, and they need the public’s help…

This is Cabela. She was found tied to train tracks with multiple gunshot wounds in Tampa, FL.

“We do get calls where people are abusing animals, but an animal that was tied up and shot twice? It’s very rare we get something like that.” Officer Alvin Cruz told ABC Action News.

“I hope somebody out there comes forward and helps us find who did this.”

Officers say that the more times these photos are seen, the better the chance of someone seeing Cabela and recognizing her, which could be the difference between finding out who did this and not.

Immediately after her rescue, she was taken to Tampa Bay Veterinary Emergency Service. She was able to take a very short walk. But she is clearly wobbling and hurting.

Yet, everyone who has encountered her says she is a sweet and good-tempered dog, who is thankfully expected to survive.

"Cabella is doing great, she’s a tough girl. Investigation is on going[sic]. #tpdrescue," the Tampa Police recently wrote on their Twitter feed. Unfortunately, she may have one of her legs amputated.

Senior Sergeant R. Mills, a 20-year veteran with the Tampa Police Department, assisted his squad with the rescue of Cabela. In the following picture, which is very graphic, you can see him carrying her away from the crime scene. You can click the photo be
