When Dave Schelske took his dog Sandy for a hike along the Eagle Creek Trail in the Columbia River Gorge on Christmas Day, the dog accidentally snapped her leash and ran down the trail. But before her owner could stop the playful pup, the dog accidentally fell 150 feet down the cliff.
The owner was panicked when he couldn't find his beloved dog, so he hiked to the bottom of the cliff until he spotted her on a ledge. He couldn't reach her, so he called for help. Soon after, an eight person crew from the Oregon Humane Society rushed to the scene. One volunteer descended down the cliff to reach Sandy — and it was all caught on camera. It was getting dark as rescuers tried to find Sandy. Finally, after a harrowing plunge, Sandy and the rescuer are finally in view and are safe.
Thankfully, the dog only suffered minor injuries and was reunited with Schelske at around 11:30 p.m. Rescuers say it's a true miracle that Sandy is alive after such a fall. God bless those amazing rescuers!
