Dogs Saved From Dog Meat Trade Enjoying Their New Forever Homes

Snowball, Rusty, and Luna are 3 of the 23 dogs the Humane Society International rescued from the dog meat trade in South Korea earlier this year. They lived in deplorable conditions but were brought to the U.S. to get the care they needed. Thankfully, all of the dogs found their forever homes.

The Human Society recently caught up with a few of the rescued pups to see how they're enjoying their new lives.

"They lived horrible lifestyles. They weren't pet, they weren't given a toy. They weren't offered anything other than a little bowl of food every now and again," Luna's dad David Wyttenbach.

It took Luna, who was reserved and scared, several weeks to warm up to her new family, but then, one day, she began to lick Wyttenbach's hand. Now, the pair are inseparable. Today, Luna enjoys romping around with the other family dogs in the backyard or at the park.

The other two pups, Snowball and Rusty, also needed a little TLC before they were able to embrace their new homes. Growing up locked in a cage and never seeing sunlight, these dogs look so incredibly happy today being able to run free and play. Now they're all making up for lost time.

As each owner speaks about their experience, it's easy to see how important pet adoption is.

According to the ASPCA, approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.9 million are dogs, 1.2 million of which are euthanized. These staggering facts prove that it’s important to adopt rescue animals.
