There's something about making a lasting impact before you leave this world. It's something perhaps everyone wants to do. But what we sometimes fail to realize is just how much pets can create a lasting impact on the people around them. One dog, Mellow, is bringing light to just how much pets can mean to us.
Mellow is a rescue pup who was recently diagnosed with fast-spreading lymphoma. Since 2019, he and his parent, Kevin Curry, walked the streets of their town in Dupont, Pennsylvania, twice every day.
After receiving Mellow's diagnosis, Kevin decided to take his dog on one final walk around the town. He left flyers in his neighbors' mailboxes to let them know about the goodbye walk.

KJ Warunek, a resident of the area, shared that it's a "heartwarming and heartbreaking story" as he talked about the walk. "There were at least 25 people [on the first block]. When I looked to the next block, there was another 20."
In a post on Twitter, Mellow's heartwarming story received a lot of attention. "This is Mellow. He has terminal cancer, but he's been walking his neighborhood with his human every day since 2019, so he has a lot of friends who will miss him…" the post started.
"They came out in full force, with signs and treats and many pets for this very good boy. 14/10 ❤️," the caption ended.
The heartbreaking note that Kevin left in the mailboxes, in part, read, "Regardless of how well we know each other, you have made my life so much richer than any rescue dog could have hoped for. I am so grateful to have such a caring neighbors and live in a community that looks out for one another so well."
"As for my owner, once I pass on, he probably won't go for as many walks as we do now and so you may not see him around as often," the letter continued. "I know he will miss seeing you all, and especially the other pets in the neighborhood, as much as I will. Thanks again for all the love you have shown me the last 4 years!"
People in the comments were absolutely heartbroken yet warmed by the story.
"This is the sweetest thing ever – love to both Kevin and Mellow – you are both good boys ❤️," one person wrote.
Another person encouraged others, commenting, "Well that just broke me for today. Hey y’all in honor of Mellow let’s all be kind to each other. I think he’d like that ✌️ ."
