In a tear-jerking story that showcases the transformative power of compassion and determination, a man’s act of kindness changes the life of a husky who has spent his entire time confined within the boundaries of a backyard.
Lee Asher is back at it again being an amazing person coming to the rescue of neglected animals. Lee is the founder of The Asher House, a registered nonprofit sanctuary in Estacada, Oregon. The sanctuary rescues animals that have been discarded or not wanted and give them the love and home that they deserve.
In this story, Lee received multiple messages regarding a husky that has spent its entire life in the backyard without any human contact. According to Lee, the only source of food for the dog is the neighbor who feeds it through the fence.
Despite Lee's persistent requests, the owners have consistently refused to give up their husky. The neighbor who has been providing food for the dog has been the one sending multiple emails to Lee.
When Lee comes up to the neighbor, she explains right away: “I apologize right up front. This might be very emotional for me. This has been such a long, long haul.” Then she tells Lee that Joey is the name of the husky.
Lee successfully calms down Joey in the backyard and manages to put a collar and leash on him. Despite the owners' refusal to surrender Joey, Lee decides to take him to the groomer to be pampered. After persistently tending to Joey's needs and communicating with the owners for two weeks, Lee was finally able to convince them to surrender Joey. Now, Joey will receive proper care under Lee's watch.

Now that Lee has Joey, he shows us the “Guide to Joey’s New Life.” Step one is taking him to a training facility so he can get used to other dogs. Step two is to take him home! Step three is to get him used to the whole pack of dogs! Step four is, of course, spoiling him, and step five, watching him run free.
