A news crew at a dog park in Alberta, Canada, was about to start reporting on the dangers of thin ice when, as if on cue, a nearby dog fell through the ice of a pond that had frozen over.
His dad, Duncan McIver, saw it happen, and he didn't hesitate.
Duncan quickly dove into the frozen pond to save his pup.
Then the ice broke further due to the man's weight, causing his poor pup to be engulfed deeper in the water.
Luckily, Duncan reached him in time to push the dog onto a nearby strip of concrete, no doubt part of the dog park before the pond froze.
He then climbed onto the strip himself, carrying his dog.
But they weren't out of the woods yet.
Duncan looked for a path back to shore, and when there wasn't one, he started stepping lightly on surrounding ice to test if it could carry their combined weight.
Unfortunately, he quickly learned it could not. After taking one step, the ice broke and both Duncan and his dog plummeted back into the freezing water.
Thankfully, they fell close enough to the shore that Duncan and his pup were able to climb onto the ground and free themselves.
A reporter with the news team went to check on the two, but aside from the excessive cold, they both seemed happy to be free of the water.
