She may not look gutsy, but this grandmother was just gutsy enough to put herself at risk and scare off dangerous intruders. When her neighbor's dog Roxie was approached by five coyotes, unlikely hero Dolores "Dolly" Jefferson came to the terrified animal's rescue.
The coyotes, who were about four times the size of tiny Roxie, got scared when 84-year-old Dolly approached them and started yelling. Dolly's son came outside when he heard the commotion and helped make the vicious coyotes scatter. Even though Dolly may look past her prime, her quick-thinking helped her become a hero.
Roxie, a 26-pound Egyptian Pharaoh hound, had been bitten on the nose by one of the animals, but luckily, she escaped with just minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery. There's no doubt the coyotes would have torn apart the tiny pup. "Another five or 10 seconds delay by Dolly and Roxie would not be here" said Rich Parent, Jefferson's neighbor and Roxie's owner. Dolly truly is living proof that we should never discount the elderly!
