Everyone loves gifts. Some are strange. Others are heartwarming. And if there’s an avid Elvis fan in your life, there are plenty of presents that they will never return to sender.
Yet the King of all gifts is one that is made by your own two hands. One that requires thought and time to create. Usually, we reserve these gifts for people we truly care about, and the DIY devotees of Reddit are no exception.
In fact, one user, fireman466, loves his girlfriend so much, he took the time to create her a very special piece of art that commemorates someone very special to her — her two-year-old puppy!
All that fireman466 needed was a picture of the dog, a piece of pine, a handful nails, and his imagination to create something I wish my (imaginary) boyfriend would make for me…
Inspired by his lady-love’s pup, a black Labrador/boxer/rottweiler mix, fireman466 set out to make his girlfriend a personalized gift. First he blew up a photo of the dog.

The printed photo filled a 5' x 5' sheet of paper. He cut out the silhouette of the dog and applied it to a 2' x 4' x 1" piece of pine.

He then nailed in 1-1/2" black-coated drywall nails around the outline about a fingertip apart. He estimates he used about 110 nails in all.

He then removed the paper.

The wood was then prepped with one coat of wood conditioner, which boosts the beauty of a stain.

He added one coat of stain.

Then a second for a deeper, richer hue.

Now the magic happens — squeezing 120 yards of black string in-between all the nails.

Thus creating a beautiful piece of string art!

Bow-Wow. Bow-wow, indeed, fireman466. Take a, well…bow!
