David Lanteigne adopted Lily the pit bull for his mother three years ago to help her cope with her alcoholism. David says that after becoming Lily's owner, his mother almost completely overcame her illness until some bad family news set her back. One night, Lanteigne's mother was walking Lily near some train tracks when she passed out, drunk. Lily saw an oncoming train and scarified herself to save her owner, pulling her to safety and taking the brunt of the collision.
