A heartwarming dog story is always a good read. Especially one where a dog gets rescued and placed with a loving family. This story, though, just might bring you to tears — happy tears.
The Dodo shared a video on its Facebook page about a man, Lee Asher, who put a dog back together emotionally and physically with love. We see the dog and Lee meet for the first time, and we see her already developing a love for her new dad.
The poor dog looks like she hasn’t eaten in months, with her ribs very visible and her legs shaking as she walks. Her new dad gives her kisses on her nose right away and gives her a “Hi, sweetie!” He slowly rubs the side of her, inspecting her fragile condition. You can hear the worry in his voice when he says, “Oh my god … I didn’t know she was so skinny.”
A woman at the veterinary office replies, “When she came in she couldn’t even walk.” This poor dog is supposed to weigh 100 to 130 pounds when healthy, but her weight when she leaves the shelter is only 70 pounds. Before Lee takes her home, he thanks all the workers for taking care of his new dog and gives them all a hug. You can already tell Lee is going to love her endlessly.
All the dogs at her new home greet her with nothing but love and tail wags. Once she gets inside her new home, she struggles to walk up the stairs, so Lee has to carry her up.

She then walks over and lays down on a dog bed next to a little dog named Pom Pom, who doesn’t seem to even notice there's a new dog in the house.
The video then cuts to two months later — and an almost unrecognizable dog. Her name, Mildred, is finally revealed, and Lee says she is doing amazing and that she is the best gift the universe sent him.
Mildred is now walking and running by her dad when drives his ATV, she rides with him wherever he goes, and she even loves to swim. She has finally reached 100 pounds and looks healthier than ever.
