Sometimes I look at a bear and think, "How cute!" In particular, this video of a bear cub playing with a puppy makes me happy every time I see it.
Thanks to teddy bears, Winnie the Pooh, and Yogi Bear, we sometimes think of bears as docile and cuddly animals more interested in finding a pot of honey or a picnic basket than anything else, but it's important to remember that bears are natural predators.
Bears are not prone to attack humans. Generally speaking, they're more interested in finding their next meal, but bear attacks have been known to occur when the bear is frightened, threatened, or thinks it needs to protects its cubs.
Bears are incredible animals, but respect should be given to their natural ferocity.
That's why a Florida community recently got worried when residents saw a bear wandering where it wasn't supposed to and took action. Fortunately, a trained biologist was on the scene.

Citizens in this Florida community grew concerned when they saw a black bear where it shouldn't have been.

Authorities worried about what the bear might do. They were concerned that the bear, frightened of people, might try to attack in defense. For the bear's own safety, authorities agreed they needed to tranquilize him.

The tranquilizer took effect, but at an unfortunate time. The bear, shocked by the sting of the tranquilizer, started running towards the water as the sedative started to work. Confused, the bear grew dizzier and dizzier.

Fortunately, Adam Warwick was nearby to rescue him from drowning.

Warwick worked for the Wildlife Commission. Seeing the bear tread deeper and deeper into the water, he knew someone had to take action.

Though the bear could have attacked because it felt threatened, Warwick still bravely leapt into the water to keep the bear afloat.

The average weight of a black bear is a walloping 250 pounds. This one weighed even more: 400 pounds!

Warwick dragged the bear 25 yards to shallow water so he could stand and find his balance.

Adam did suffer one minor scratch from the bear. He also had a cut foot from barnacles, but the damage was minor.

The bear was soon transported back to its home in the forest.

This bear was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but Adam Warwick was decidedly in the right place at the right time.

The bear was uninjured and its life was saved thanks to Adam.

The groggy bear was too unaware to know that the biologist saved his life, but there's no doubt he'd be grateful.
