The last year of social isolation has been hard on many people. It's been a particularly challenging time for seniors. A recent study from the University of Michigan, among people ages 50 to 80 years old, found that more than 85% of respondents said that their pets help them enjoy life and make them feel loved.
In the animal world, senior pets are also struggling. They are often more challenging to find loving homes for, since sometimes their needs lead to higher costs that aren't compatible with all those looking to add a pet to their home.
This Valentine's Day, Rachael Ray and her team at Nutrish are celebrating the love between humans and their dogs. The team got together to find seniors their perfect match, a senior shelter dog.
Rachael partnered with Muttville Senior Dog Rescue to provide free adoptions for all senior dogs throughout the month of February. The initiative was made possible thanks to a donation from an undisclosed family. Rachael is making these adoptions even sweeter with a year's supply of free dog food. The dogs will also be provided complimentary wellness checks from a vet if they go home with an animal lover over the age of 50.
