This Stray Was So Sick And Neglected, It’s A Miracle She Didn’t Die.. But Look At Her Now. Wow.

Sometimes, rescue stories come along that touch your heart in such a way, it restores your faith in humanity. Here's a story of determination, kindness and love… but I'll let the hero herself tell the story:

“On my way home from work one day, I spotted a small stray dog eating trash in the parking lot of the Hollywood Park Casino. I stopped my car in front of her and got out to see if she was friendly. I was about 2 feet away from her when she finally noticed me and started running away. I found out later that she was deaf and blind in her left eye which was the result of a massive ear infectionWe discovered that she was heavily infested with fleas and had several infected, open sores on her skin. She was also very underweight and we could see and feel every bone in her body. Her ear was so deeply infected that there was large amounts of puss oozing from it. We decided right then that she needed to be seen by a professional veterinarian. I contacted a local animal organization by the name of Angels ‘N’ Paws Rescue and they directed me to a veterinarian who was willing to see her for a fraction of the cost of a regular patient. We scheduled an appointment and had her in the clinic the same day we brought her home. She spent the night and was spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, body clipped, and treated for her infections and flea infestation.

We came and picked her up the next morning and our journey began to rehabilitate her sweet little soul. Together, my cousin and I worked tirelessly to restore life and stability to the dog we eventually named Koni. Her name developed from a series of endearing nicknames we gave her when she came home from the clinic with her E-Collar on: Coneface, Conehead, Conedog… Coney. We changed the spelling to Koni and it stuck. The vet said she was only about 2 years old but she looked more like 15 to us because she was so ill. In the days that followed, her personality started to shine through and her youth emerged as her health improved. Since the day she came home to us, we have only had her for only 12 days but it feels more like months. It is remarkable what a little bit of TLC can do in such a short amount of time. In the past 12 days, Koni has gained 3 pounds and is completely free of infections, parasites, and skin sores. She loves people and other dogs and is happy and full of life. Amazingly, her history has not affected her in the least and she is ready for a family that can enjoy the rest of her life with her. She is non-aggressive, gets along well with other dogs and people, and has never been destructive or had any accidents in the house. She's looking for a family that will love her forever.

I'd also like to say thank you to my wonderful and supportive mom, Toni, who helped us both directly and financially with the care and rehabilitation of Koni."

And guess what?! Within a year of her rescue, Koni had been adopted by Toni herself!!!
