Blade Anthony served as a medic in the U.S. Marine Corps who returned home very different from when he left for deployment. Like so many veterans, Anthony was plagued with terrible PTSD, which made it impossible for him to work and function back home in his "civilian" life. He found himself feeling alone, abusing alcohol and suffering terribly. He thought his life was over, until he met DD.
DD was a former shelter pet who was trained to be a service dog specifically to help veterans suffering from PTSD. The day before Anthony called Pets for Vets, he had called a suicide prevention hotline. They were similar, in that they had both been through so much. Anthony says DD saved his life. There's no doubt in my mind that pets can heal… and save lives.
