Kids tend to have a one-track mind, and if they want something, they won't rest until they get it. This is especially true when it comes to begging for pets.
Of course, a pet is a lot more work than a toy — and hopefully lasts much longer. That's why the issue of adding a pet to the family isn't taken lightly. It can take years to convince a parent that you are ready for such a big responsibility.
Peyton Grubisic is 13. She has been trying to adopt a cat since she was 9 years old. That means she has been trying to convince her dad (who is allergic to cats) to adopt one. As you'll see below, she decided to get creative with her most recent plea.
They say desperate times call for desperate measures, so Peyton decided to appeal to her dad's soft spot by creating a "wall of sorrow."
Not only has Peyton gained national attention through her wall of sorrow — she's also gained a cat.
As soon as photos of Peyton's wall of sorrow were shared online, people began reacting.
A post on the Love What Matters Facebook page got over 4,000 reactions and 700 comments.
It was shared by Peyton's college-aged sister, Danielle, who penned this heartfelt message:
My little sister, Peyton, (she is 13) made a ‘wall of sorrow’ to make my dad feel badly, so she could get a cat… Well, it worked!
She has wanted a cat for the last two years now, as ours died around that time. My dad is allergic, so he was hesitant to get one — and it’s a lot of responsibility.
She had been asking him for one all year, for her birthday in December. He kept saying, ‘No’, and then she made a note saying how to take care of a cat; and he still said, ‘No’, so she decided to make this wall!
We adopted Mittens from a local animal shelter last Saturday, and she is adjusting well to the family.
She LOVES to cuddle with my sister — and now, even with my dad!
As usual, the family member who’s most resistant to the idea of a new pet doesn’t take too long to warm up to them.
The wall of sorrow was the last of Peyton's many attempts to convince her dad to let her get a cat.
Here is an early attempt where she demonstrated her kitty-litter knowledge.
This time, Peyton tried to hit her dad where it really hurts — lonely shelter animals always seem to do the trick.
Peyton's "wall of sorrow" is sad, but her creativity and sense of humor definitely make up for it.
