It's always shocking to hear stories of animal abuse.
For most people, the idea of hurting innocent animals in any way is enough to make their stomach turn — even if the harm is unintentional.
Someone knowingly inflicting pain and abuse on another living creature is horrendous. And that's why our humane societies and other protective agencies are so important.
Someone has to speak for those who aren't able to speak for themselves, especially when they are being so blatantly mistreated.
It's disturbing enough when someone hurts one animal, let alone multiple. But that's exactly what happened in this Ohio yard.
More than 100 farm animals were being kept in deplorable conditions, some of them on the brink of death; others died and were forgotten about.
When the Brown County Humane Society swept in to remove the animals from this horror, the owner claimed he was keeping them as a means to feed his family.
But according to rescuers, the animals were not healthy enough to be considered food, as they were malnourished and diseased.
Thankfully, they were able to remove all the animals and have even found homes for each and every one — although some of them are still in need of medical attention.
