When it comes to holidays, there is nothing I love more than filling my home with festivity and cheer. Whether it's a big holiday like Christmas, or a meager one like Valentine's, I never miss a chance to celebrate with decor.
But of all the year's holidays, nothing is more special to me than Independence Day — or the 4th of July, as it's more commonly known. Who doesn't love the opportunity to celebrate our nation's history and all the people who got us here?
And when honoring this special day, I think it's important to decorate with just the right pieces. I don't want anything cheap or made overseas. I want to fill my home with special, handmade items that remind me of all the things I love about America.
That's why I was so excited to find this patriotic centerpiece! With just a few simple items and about 20 minutes, your home will literally be glowing with American pride!

To make the perfect rustic centerpiece for all your 4th of July festivities, start by gathering these supplies. You'll need a Mason jar, a small American flag, a small candle, sand, twine, Mod Podge, scissors, and a sponge brush.

First, carefully remove your flag from its wooden pole. Mine was attached with staples, so I grabbed a staple remover.

Next, figure out where on the jar you'll be applying your flag.

When you're ready, dip your sponge brush into the Mod Podge.

Tightly holding the flag to the jar, begin to apply the Mod Podge.

Make sure you go around all four sides of the flag.

Once you've coated the sides, be sure to glue the body of the flag too. Let this dry for about 15–20 minutes.

Once your flag is dry, pour the sand into the jar.

Make sure you like the height of the sand. Lightly tap the jar to level out the sand.

Next, grab your twine and cut a length of it.

Begin to tie it around the mouth of the jar.

After going around a few times, tie it in a nice bow. Make sure the bow is across from the flag.

Once that's done, grab your candle. We chose to use a battery-operated tea candle.

Carefully place the candle within the jar. (Of course, if you're using a regular wax candle, be sure to light it after placing it in the jar.)

And that's it! Now you have a beautiful, rustic candle votive that's perfect for celebrating our nation's independence!
