One might forget at times that when it comes to pet safety and rescue, both the fire department and police are often involved in order to ensure animals in distress are given the best care.
This video posted on YouTube Shorts shows footage from a canine rescue mission in Texas as the fire department brought a dog down from an apartment balcony after he was left there by his out-of-town parent.
People reports that authorities were called to the scene in Houston after “concerned citizens” reported seeing an “unresponsive” dog on a second-story balcony who was in severe heat distress.
The news outlet reports that when the rescue teams arrived on the scene, the dog was in “very grave condition.” The canine then showed signs of breathing and they immediately placed him in a protective covering and brought him safely over the balcony and down to the ground where they could administer emergency medical care.
The video shows the dog peeking his head out of the safety net to the joy of the workers, as well as a rescue employee later checking his vitals.

People reports that after being in the care of the Houston SPCA, the dog had gained enough strength to stand on his own. In a statement to People, Houston SPCA shared that there would be a hearing about this incident because animal cruelty is a crime in the state of Texas.
