Mom Tells 4-Year-Old To Save Pennies For Service Dog, Now He’s Finally Bringing One Home

Aiden Heath has type 1 diabetes. His glucose levels need to be strictly monitored. When Aiden was 4 years old, he heard about dogs that can help monitor his sugar levels.

Aiden knew he had to have one. Still, the boy from Waitsfield, VT, knew that service dogs are expensive, at least $15,000. His mom Jenni Heath told him to save up for the dog one penny at a time.

So Aiden did. Yep, at 4 years old, he began pulling his red wagon full of jars with spare change. After four years, he saved $9,000 all by himself. However, after his story went viral, the money began to pour in.

Hundreds of donors helped Aiden raise $20,000. He and his mom were finally able to put a down payment on the dog he had his eyes set on: Angel.

Angel is a chocolate Labrador who passed all of her training tests. For months, Aiden kept pictures of Angel. Now he has finally taken her home.

"Aiden looked at me and said, 'This is a dream,'" Jenni told ABC News. "He was on pins and needles waiting for her."

Jenni says that Angel will give her some piece of mind. The mother can't be with Aiden while he's at school or when he's asleep so Angel is the family's saving grace.

"We have been so amazed by the outpouring of support," Jenni said. "He is feeling the love. There are no words."
