Airline Reportedly Loses 12-Year-Old Unaccompanied Minor At Miami International Airport

A mother in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is accusing a major airline of losing her tween daughter. The girl was traveling between the city and her father's home in Miami, Florida in July, 2022, as an unaccompanied minor.

Monica Gilliam explains that she dropped her 12-year-old off at the airport in Chattanooga, expecting that she would be picked up in Miami by her father — with the assistance of the airline staff assigned to help her.

Instead, a nightmare unfolded. Gilliam explained that the airline employee assigned to her daughter simply told the young girl goodbye when the plane landed in Miami. The girl was wearing a lanyard indicating she was an unaccompanied minor that was clearly visible to everyone at the airport.

Gilliam received a phone call about an hour after her daughter's plane arrived, letting her know the airline had no idea where the girl was. Eventually the girl's father found her, but Gilliam said that no one at the airport made sure he was the appropriate person to pick her up.
