When you were little, how many times did you imagine yourself as a magical creature? Maybe a fairy princess with gauzy, glittery wings, flitting through the forest on an adventure? And let's be honest, the thought might still cross your mind from time to time.
If that's the case, then you're in luck. Designer Alassie of El Costurero Real, who lives and works in Barcelona, Spain, creates stunning scarves and capes printed with beautiful and realistic patterns of butterfly and moth wings.
The capes are even shaped like the insect's wings for an extra touch of realism — and they come in adult sizes! The color schemes are a little more grown-up, too, with rich, earthy palettes.
And they prove that no matter how grown up we get, there's a part of us that still cherishes the magic of imagination and fairy tale wonder.
Many creative people go back to these themes later in life, using their varied talents to bring those childhood delights back to life, like the man who literally created the fairy tale world for his daughters in perfect miniature.
Alassie's range from dramatic full-length pieces for a bold, striking look to smaller printed scarves that can be worn with everyday clothes for a creative pop of color. She also makes child-size versions that are perfect for costumes and playing pretend.

Alassie of El Costurero Real, a design studio in Barcelona, Spain, creates these stunning butterfly and moth wing capes by hand. They're perfect for anyone who's always wanted to fly and look good doing it.

The capes are handmade from cotton, and range in heaviness from light and translucent, like a real wing, to more substantial capes made from a heavier, lined fabric. They come printed with the patterns of various butterflies and moths.

This Monarch butterfly cape, one of the heavier kinds, even has a fur collar to make it look even more realistic.

The butterfly capes' collars can also come in feathers, and of course, in all different colors and patterns.

The larger, more dramatic capes even have wire along the edges of their wings to help them keep their shape. These are popular among dancers, who like to incorporate the capes into their routines.

Alassie makes each cape by hand, and is inspired by the fairy tales and adventure stories she heard growing up in Granada, Spain. She studied costume design, and later started a blog about her projects.

Soon, her readers were requesting costumes of their own, and so El Costurero Real, which means "The Royal Tailor," was born, and named for all those legendary queens Alassie loved so much.

And if a dramatic, swirling cape isn't your style, that's OK, too. Alassie also offers smaller, more everyday scarves that are no less beautiful.

You could wear one of these with a simple sweater and jeans, and look fantastic.
However, because Alassie makes these scarves and capes herself, it can take a while for orders to be filled. But that means you know there's really a talented, working artist behind each one!

You can see more capes on Alassie's Etsy shop, and you may notice that the designs and patterns will change with availability. You can also find jewelry, accessories, and other fantastical garments for sale. And you can learn more on her website, Facebook, and Instagram.
And don't forget to SHARE these beautiful, wearable creations with the rest of your friends who still like to play pretend every once in a while!
